The Washington Economic Development Commission (www.wedc.wa.gov) will meet in Wenatchee August 3rd starting at 8:30 am and adjourning at 3:00 pm. The meeting will be webcast live. The agenda includes three policy reports vital to creating jobs in Washington state:
- Indicators for Washington Innovation Economy presented by Dr. Paul Sommers
- Policy benchmarks for expanding exports, growing talent, nurturing entrepreneurship and promoting life sciences presented by Jerry Paytas
- Competing for federal funds to support WA innovation clusters presented by Allegra Calder
Three additional policy reports will be released at forums later in August and September:
- Washington Manufacturing in the Global Economy prepared by AWB Manufacturing Institute
- Electrification of Transportation: An Economic Development Roadmap prepared by Steve Marshall
- Washington Defense Economy: Measuring and Growing It's Impact prepared by Berk & Associates
Agriculture is a globally competitive and innovative sector of the Washington economy. Director Dan Newhouse will be with us to discuss innovation at the Department of Agriculture. Jaime Clark, director of the Agriculture Center for Excellence in Walla Walla will discuss the workforce training needs emerging in the agriculture sector. Dave Klick of the Northwest Food Processor Association will brief us on innovation for value-added agriculture. Commissioners will tour food processing facilities Monday at Tree Top, Inc. Wenatchee ingredients for Sara Lee pies, McDonald's fruit turnovers and Stemilt Growers Wenatchee.
